FDA Recall of Hydroxycut

The recent FDA recall of Hydroxycut has sent shock waves through the community. How could a dangerous drug linked to serious medical conditions be allowed to go to market? What are consumers’ rights? Read on for more information on the FDA recall of Hydroxycut and what you can do if you’ve been injured.

The FDA recall of Hydroxycut was initiated by 23 cases of severe health problems in patients using the popular weight-loss and energy-increasing drug. These problems ranged from liver failure requiring transplant to cardiovascular problems to at least one death. The recall is especially shocking given Hydroxycut’s prominent place in the crowded weight-loss marketplace. Hydroxycut was aggressively promoted on radio and TV and was sold over-the-counter to anyone who wished to buy. Unfortunately, the scope of damage to the American consumer is not yet known.

Dangers associated with Hydroxycut include liver damage, with symptoms ranging from jaundice and brown urine to fatigue, nausea, and easy bruising. In addition, seizures and cardiovascular events have been reported in addition to a rare condition called rhabdomyolysis, which affects the muscles and kidneys. Hydroxycut regular and caffeine-free rapid release caplets, regular and caffeine-free drink packets in addition to Hardcore and Max packets, liquid capsules marketed under the Max and Hardcore names, and Hydroxycut 24, Natural, Carb Control, and Max Aqua shed have all been taken off the market, though Cleanse and Hoodia products remain on shelves and are not included under the FDA recall of Hydroxycut.

Though the FDA recommends that consumers stop taking the drug immediately and return any unused portions to the place where they bought it, those precautions will do little for those who have already experienced liver damage and other health complications due to Hydroxycut use. For those who have been injured by this irresponsibly manufactured and marketed drug, the only recourse that remains is to fight manufacturer Iovate in civil court, claiming compensation for the costs associated with their injury.
